When “Why Me?” Becomes the Wrong Question

If you believe God may be calling you to start a business, hesitation is not necessarily a sign that you are on the wrong path.

You may find yourself asking, “Why me?” Am I qualified? Do I have what it takes? Why would God call me to this?

Those questions are understandable. But instead of becoming paralyzed by uncertainty, consider asking a different question:

“What would it look like for me to faithfully live out this calling?”

That shift moves the focus from your perceived limitations to the purpose behind the calling.

A Biblical Framework for the Called Founder

Micah 6:8 provides a simple framework for approaching business as a Christian founder:

Act Justly

Your calling should influence how you conduct business. That means making decisions with integrity, treating people fairly, and building an organization you can lead with a clear conscience.

Love Mercy

Business involves people—employees, customers, vendors, partners, and competitors. Loving mercy means bringing grace, compassion, and genuine concern for others into those relationships.

Walk Humbly With God

Perhaps most importantly, a Christian founder is not called to build entirely through personal ambition or strength.

Walking humbly with God means remaining dependent on Him, seeking His direction, and recognizing that faith-led leadership requires both action and surrender.

Move Forward Without Rushing Ahead

You do not need to have every answer before taking the next step.

If you believe God is leading you toward business, begin by seeking clarity, developing your skills, and taking practical steps while remaining attentive to God’s timing.

Your calling is not about proving that you are enough. It is about faithfully responding to the One who called you.

FAQ

Q: Is feeling afraid or uncertain a sign that I shouldn’t start a business?

A: Not necessarily. Apprehension can be a normal response to stepping into something unfamiliar. It can also lead you to seek wisdom, preparation, and clarity.

Q: How does Micah 6:8 apply to business?

A: It provides three principles for Christian leadership: act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God. These principles can shape how you make decisions and lead people.

Q: Should I wait until I feel completely confident?

A: Confidence does not have to come before obedience. Seek God’s direction, prepare wisely, and take the next appropriate step without assuming you must have the entire path figured out.
